Alleen het rode zeewier \u201cChondrus Crispu\u201d wordt verzameld. Bij eb oogst een goede plukker ongeveer 150 kilo rood zeewier. In Brest produceert Sanofi het rode algenextract Carraggenan, dat terug te vinden is als bindmiddel en geleermiddel in pudding en yoghurt.<br \/>\nZeewiermeel verbetert de consistentie van brood en de houdbaarheid van worst in Frankrijk. Het bruine algenextract Alginaat dat wordt gebruikt bij de make-upproductie, maakt de lippen rood en verstevigt het gezicht.<br \/>\nHet Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique in Roscoff doet onderzoek naar andere toepassingen.
